and optical shop located in the heart of Downtown Seattle at 6th & Pine.
Darwin Liao writes: "In order to provide our patients and customers with the best possible eye care, we chose to integrate the latest medical equipment and technologies, such as electronic medical records, electronic practice management, and even an e-commerce system to allow customers to virtually try-on eyewear over the internet. In order to successfully create a solid foundation upon which to build our technology-laden practice, we chose CyberStreams to provide the essential infrastructure for our networking and small business technology needs. CyberStreams offered the convenience of one-stop shopping - from installation of ethernet cable for our network, to recommendation and installation of a revolutionary voice-over-IP phone system, to designing our computer network and configuring our servers with Windows 2000 for Early Deployment. (It may be argued that Seattle Eye M.D.s is the first healthcare site, if not the first small business to deploy Windows 2000 from the start.)"
"The nature of healthcare demands that physicians must constantly assimilate and manage a wealth of information, not only to keep up to date with complex insurance billing paperwork policies, but more importantly to effectively deliver quality patient care. As our staff is continually moving from exam room to exam room in the clinic, as well as frequently located offsite at local surgery centers, the requirements to "stay in touch" with the office is a necessity. No longer are simple pagers and cell phones enough to serve as the communications devices for healthcare. To maximize our connectivity to the office systems, Seattle Eye M.D.s along with CyberStreams has established several core technologies to assist our physicians, who can probably be labeled the ultimate mobile professionals. The first remote-access solution established was to web-enable Outlook to access our personal e-mail and calendar, contacts, and to-do lists from any computer with an internet connection. Secondly, a Windows 2000 Terminal Server was put online to allow us even more control and flexibility to actually run applications, such as our electronic medical records system, remotely as if we were sitting at a physical workstation in the office. The combination of these two systems has empowered our physicians to work offsite as effectively as onsite. With the ability to have the e-mail client check for voicemail on the phone system, the need for the office staff to contact the physicians when out of the office is greatly decreased, as they are now able to stay in touch at all times."
